When critics attack

Individuals associated with the Enmore Spiritualist Church have become the victim of several inaccurate websites and comment posts on the internet.

Members of the Church have tried to advise strangers who got caught up in the battle, to at the very least seek legal advice (now available at no cost from most solicitors. legal advice centres or a chamber magistrate) before making remarks on a subject they know little about.
It's worth noting some responses to similar cases:
In Australia tweets have become the basis for defamation cases.

Liberal Party pollsters Lynton Crosby and Mark Textor are suing federal Labor MP Mike Kelly for defamation over a tweet in which he accused their campaign consulting firm of push polling.
Joshua Meggitt, the Melbourne man wrongly named by writer and television identity Marieke Hardy as the author of a hate blog dedicated to her, is now suing Twitter.
In the US, Michiel Oakes, a man convicted of the murder of celebrity dog trainer Mark Stover, has launched an appeal because a 19-year-old juror was tweeting throughout the trial, the Seattle Weekly reported.
In Britain last year, Joanne Fraill became the first juror to be prosecuted for contempt of court for using the internet and was jailed for eight months.
Fraill used Facebook to communicate with a defendant who had already been acquitted, The Guardian reported.

Spiritualist Churches Under Attack

European Union rules are putting Spiritualism at risk:

Victims In Psychic-Inspired Hoax Sue Police

A Texas couple who own a ranch that police searched following false information that was provided by a psychic are suing the police and several major news organizations for defamation.
The case began June 6, 2011, when a psychic called police and described a horrific scene of mass murder: dozens of dismembered bodies near a ranch house about an hour outside of Houston, Texas. There were rotting limbs, headless corpses, and, chillingly, many were children in this mass grave they described.
Deputies from the Liberty County Sheriff's office went to investigate but didn’t see anything amiss. After a second call the following day, dozens of officials from the Texas Department of Public Safety, the FBI, and the Texas Rangers were on the scene -- not to mention cadaver dogs, news helicopters, and gawkers. It all turned out to be a false alarm. There were no dead bodies; the psychic was wrong (or lying).

Victor Zammit says 'telepathy proven"

The "afterlife lawyer" Victor Zammit has an interesting piece on his website :

These are the same ones who regularly attack mediums and the paranormal. Now Chris Carter points out in an article in EPOCH TIMESthat leading hard-line skeptical psychologists Richard Wiseman and Chris French have admitted that the evidence for telepathy is so good that by the standards of any other area of science, telepathy has been proven. Not only that, he claims that "two surveys of over 500 scientists in one case and over 1,000 in another both found that the majority of respondents considered ESP “an established fact” or “a likely possibility”—56 percent in one and 67 percent in the other."

The methods of Edgar Cayce are still used to cure untreatable illnesses.

In 1986, 27-year-old Cathy Comora visited her ophthalmologist after having some minor vision problems.  She was horrified when her doctor told her she had optic neuritis, a severe inflammation of the optic nerve.  Cathy was told she would probably go blind:

“It was a very frightening experience.  He said I wouldn’t want to run out right away and buy a white cane, but it’s very serious and I was scared.  I mean, I suddenly realized that there is a possibility that I could go blind.”

Since there is no known cure for the disease, Cathy chose to look for an alternative treatment.  She found a doctor who was familiar with the mysterious methods of a man named Edgar Cayce.  Edgar Cayce became famous in the 1920s for diagnosing illnesses, even though he had absolutely no medical training.  In his lifetime, Cayce made more than 9,000 diagnoses, or “readings” as he called them, while in a deep, self-induced trance.  Even though Edgar Cayce died in 1945, many practitioners still follow his teachings.  Some dismiss the cures as mere lucky coincidence.  But for those diagnosed with a disease that modern medicine cannot cure, Edgar Cayce’s methods continue to hold out hope.

What Spiritualists Face : James Van Praague

A piece in the once respected Huffington Post (the on-line newspaper sold by  Arianna Huffington for over 100 million dollars without her informing the dozens of writers and contributors who had worked gratis for the publication.) shows the type of gratuitous attacks anyone involved in the paranormal can come under.

Now it carries a Weird News section, not to dissimilar to tens of thousands of other websites but this piece caught our eye. Magician James Randi who has made a  living out of  attacking anything outside his realm and Spiritualism comes in for a bashing from the man as well. The new Huffington Post is stumbling and perhaps this one reason.

Randi operates the so-called :  The James Randi Educational Foundation (JREF) describing itself as : a non-profit organization dedicated to providing reliable information about paranormal claims, and helping members of the public protect themselves against 'psychic' and pseudo-scientific scams"

It may not be 'for profit' but it's a great channel for promoting James Randi who offers a $1M prize for anyone who can prove various matters. The Spiritualist lawyer Victor Zammit offers a similar prize for anything who can disprove things paranormal yet Randi has never applied for it.

The article is the usual series of false claims with a demand that Praague disprove the lies (something we at Enmore are used to over the past 2 years). One myth it perpetuates is that Barbara Walters called Praague a 'fake' because he said to her in a private moment off-screen that she had 'blood problems' Walters had a complete health check-up and then went on The View and against all journalistic principles called James on the health claim. 6 Months later she was rushed to hospital for an emergency heart operation.

Here's the late Don Lane getting fed up with Randi and tossing him off his show:

Psychic News to be re-published

A ripple of excitement has swept around the world of Spiritualism after it was announced that the assets of the 80 year old newspaper PN Psychic News have been purchased by the Spiritualist organisation, the JV Trust under the auspices of the chairman, the respected Minister Eric Hatton.

The JV Trust issued the following statement today:
" My fellow trustees and I are absolutely delighted to announce that yesterday, 4th October 2011, ownership of psychic News , it's archives and other assets passed to the J.V Trust".

Rev Cleary

In 2010 Psychic News published the front page story that Reverend Patricia Cleary had been vindicated in the NSW Supreme Court after several persons had made false claims about her tenure of the Enmore Spiritualist Church.
False and bizarre claims were made that local police and the Fraud Squad were investigating the church when no such investigation happened or was ever contemplated by the police as they aknowledged in writing to Rev. Cleary.

The article vindicating Reverend Cleary was firstly vetted by a retired British judge (who worked on Psychic News) to confirm accuracy and the legality of the article.

The Psychic News went into administration with a complicated legal situation occurring over ownership of it's assets that were thought to be owned by the Spiritualist's National Union (UK) who own and operate the famous Stansted Hall.
Prominent members of the SNU gave invaluable support and advice to Reverend Cleary, who enjoys a world-wide reputation for her promotion of the religion.

"Let's get physical ... or did we?" & Arthur Conan Doyle

## Important : Today at approx 5pm onwards on 702 ABC Sydney is a radio program about the great Spiritualist Sir Arthur Conan Doyle and his visit in 1920/21 to Australia to give talks on Spiritualism .

                                                        *************************

"Let's get physical ... or did we?"

Last night, I either witnessed a remarkable display of physical mediumship by David Thompson, a Brit who now resides in Australia and who claims to produce full-form materialisations, or a blatant deception that is succeeding in fooling many otherwise sensible people. So which was it?

The only way to make up one's mind in such a situation – in which the 40-plus people attending this séance at Jenny's Sanctuary in Oxfordshire were literally in the dark – is to examine both scenarios and ask which, logically, makes the most sense. That's what I'm about to do, in the hope that the views of visitors to this Blog may also contribute some useful insight

Enmore Spiritualist Church medium in Falconio murder mystery

Caterina Ligato, (left) a medium who attended development and meditation classes at Enmore Spiritualist Church has said in an interview in the Daily Telegraph that she has contacted the murdered back packer Peter Falconio and that he has given her a message that the wrong man has been jailed over his murder:

Joanne Lees and Peter Falconio

Psychic: I know what happened to Peter Falconio

Ten years after the mysterious disappearance of English backpacker Peter Falconio, Australia’s leading psychic medium, Caterina Ligato believes she can shed some new light on the case, including the revelation that John Murdoch, the man convicted of Falconio’s murder, is innocent.

“I contacted Peter through my guides to attempt to ascertain exactly what happened. I was asked by a media agency to see if I could speak with him and I have” said Ligato who is famous for her ability to talk with the spirit world and perform exorcisms.

“He told me he got involved with some bad people and agreed to be a part of a deal which involved drugs. However, he did not keep his part of the deal and fled the UK with Joanne as he was worried that the people involved might go after her.”

The inventor of television and Spiritualism

I am convinced that discoveries of far-reaching

John Logie Baird

John Logie Baird on Spiritualism

The Fox Sisters

The world's most eminent scientists are not usually associated with the dim-lit surroundings of a clairvoyant's parlour.
But some of science's biggest names have not only dabbled in, but been entirely convinced by the world of the seance.

Guglielmo Marconi, Alexander Graham Bell and John Logie Baird are familiar to most for the household indispensables they invented. But the attraction to spiritualism they all shared is definitely not part of the GCSE science syllabus.
All three men, and many other Victorian scientific pioneers, became involved with the religion, which depended on strange forces being demonstrated through bizarre phenomena.
